When it comes to a traditional vacation, it’s true that there are still areas of Ibiza that remain peaceful during the summer season. However, this idea is especially suited to those who choose to rent cottages or apartments in the more secluded corners of the island, where privacy is key.
That being said, during peak summer season, when you want to visit a well-known cove or explore some of the island’s famous spots, the experience can change dramatically. One great way to enjoy the islands is by exploring them from the water—whether it’s by sailboat or catamaran, both offering access to secluded coves and hidden beaches.
You’ll also find that, in some cases, experiencing the Pitiusas by sea can be just as affordable, if not more, than traveling by land, especially when you choose the right option for your journey.

While here, make sure to visit the charming chiringuito by Cala Sa Ferradura, where you can sip a cold beer while enjoying the stunning view of Illa des Bosc, home to one of the most exclusive villas on the island, where the elite come to stay.
Cova d’en Marçà & Benirrás: Hidden Treasures
Not far from Port de San Miguel, the Cova d’en Marçà awaits. This ancient cave, often overlooked, holds secrets that date back more than 100,000 years – a fascinating journey into the island’s rich history. A short distance away is Benirrás, a breathtaking bay shaped like a “U” and bordered by steep cliffs and lush pine trees. The crystal-clear waters make it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Continuing your journey, you’ll discover the serene beauty of Cala Es Canaret, a true gem with crystal-clear waters and a peaceful atmosphere. This secluded cove, once part of a lush pine forest, was impacted by the devastating fire that affected much of the northern coastline near Benirrás. Slowly, the area is regenerating, and its natural beauty is gradually returning, offering a glimpse of the island’s resilience and charm.
Cala Xarraca: A Hidden Paradise
Next, set sail toward Cala Xarraca, one of the most stunning and least known coves on the island. Its vast and unspoiled nature makes it a true hidden treasure, especially when approached by sea. The underwater world here is a diver’s dream, with vibrant marine life and crystal-clear waters. On the starboard side, you’ll find a perfect spot for snorkeling, where the rich colors of the ocean floor are simply mesmerizing.
Cala Portinatx: Ibiza’s Northern Beauty
Further north, Cala Portinatx and its surrounding coves await. Located at the farthest tip of Ibiza, these peaceful, untouched beaches are among the island’s most beautiful. With soft sands, calm waters, and a tranquil atmosphere, this area is perfect for those seeking an escape from the crowds and a more intimate connection with nature.

As you sail towards the idyllic island of Formentera, you’ll have the option to anchor at Illetes or venture ashore to explore its charming streets or enjoy a lovely dinner by the sea. If you’re in the mood for a unique experience, you might want to visit the mud baths—although some experienced sailors recommend skipping them due to the sulfur content. The island’s clear waters are perfect for a refreshing swim, and the hidden gem of Espalmador awaits with its pristine, transparent waters, ideal for snorkeling or simply relaxing on the beach.

If you’re dreaming of this unique experience, the cost varies depending on the type of boat and itinerary you choose. Prices for a sailing trip to Ibiza and Formentera start at around €780 per person for a week. This includes the yacht or catamaran rental with a professional skipper, insurance, full boat equipment (including safety gear, snorkeling gear, and paddleboards), and access to base ports. However, fuel costs and any additional marina fees or meals are not included.
