Jardí de ses Bruixes: A Place to Slow Down in Mahón
Some places stay with you because of how they make you feel. Jardí de ses Bruixes was one of those places for me.
Located in the heart of Mahón, this boutique hotel occupies a historic Menorcan townhouse. It combines thoughtful interiors, a beautiful garden, a remarkable spa and rooms with individual personalities.
But what made my stay particularly special was the feeling that I had somehow imagined being there long before it actually happened.
When I first started curating my selection of unique stays in Menorca, I remember picturing myself in this very place. I could see myself there, even before I knew whether I would ever get the chance to experience it. And then, somehow, I did.
It was one of those moments that reminds you to appreciate the things that come together in life, sometimes in ways you could not have planned. I felt genuinely grateful to finally be there, not just because the hotel was beautiful, but because it was a place I had already connected with in my imagination.
Jardí de ses Bruixes is full of details worth noticing, from the historic architecture to the carefully curated garden. Yet what I remember most is how different parts of the hotel offered different ways to enjoy it: the quiet of my private patio, the sensory experience of the spa and the pleasure of a slow breakfast surrounded by greenery.
Mahón is an especially good base for exploring Menorca outside the summer season. When many smaller villages become quieter and some businesses close for the winter, staying in one of the island’s two main towns means having restaurants, shops and local life within easy reach. Together with Ciutadella, Mahón offers a different perspective on the island beyond its beaches. It is an appealing choice for travellers who prefer the quieter months.

A Historic House with a Character of Its Own
Jardí de ses Bruixes occupies a historic townhouse dating back to 1811, in the centre of Mahón. Originally built for a sea captain, the house has passed through different chapters of the town’s history before becoming the boutique hotel it is today.
The building retains elements of its original character, bringing historic architectural details together with contemporary comfort. Rather than losing its identity through renovation, the house feels like a place where the past and present coexist naturally.
The hotel has 15 rooms spread across two buildings on the same street. Each has its own personality, reflecting the character of the original buildings and their different layouts. Some feature private terraces, while others offer rooftop spaces.
What I particularly appreciate about places like this is that they do not feel interchangeable. The architecture gives each space its own identity, and the details invite you to look a little closer.
The property also features a library lounge with a fireplace, alongside the garden and café that give the hotel much of its personality. Each space has a different atmosphere, yet they all feel part of the same carefully considered whole.
For me, Jardí de ses Bruixes is a reminder that a boutique hotel does not need to be enormous to offer a memorable experience. Sometimes, history, atmosphere and attention to detail are what make a place stand out.
Suite Patio: My Own Little Corner of Menorca
I stayed in the Suite Patio, and it was the kind of room that makes you want to spend more time there than you originally intended.
The suite opens onto its own private patio, complete with a small pool and an outdoor shower. It is an intimate space where the boundaries between indoors and outdoors seem to disappear.
Inside, the suite feels just as inviting. Natural materials, beautiful finishes and a generous bathroom make the space feel considered and comfortable. There is also a separate living area with a fireplace, an especially appealing detail for cooler evenings outside the summer season. A fully stocked fridge adds another thoughtful touch, allowing you to enjoy the room at your own pace.
The Light, the Water and the Privacy
One of the things I loved most was the light. It changed throughout the day, giving the room and patio a different atmosphere depending on the hour. The way it entered the space, the perspectives from inside and out, and the reflections on the water made the suite feel different as the day unfolded.
And then there was the sound of the water.
I am always drawn to places where the setting becomes part of the experience. Here, it was not just about looking at something beautiful. The experience was about hearing the water, enjoying the privacy and noticing how the atmosphere changed as the day went on.
There is something particularly lovely about having your own outdoor space in the middle of a city. You can step outside first thing in the morning, take a moment before heading out or return after exploring Menorca and simply enjoy being there.
The small private pool adds another dimension to the suite. Rather than offering a large swimming pool or an extensive list of facilities, it provides a secluded place that feels entirely your own.
What struck me was how much I had wanted to experience this particular room. When something you have imagined for a long time finally becomes real, it can make the experience feel even more meaningful.
I was not simply staying in a beautiful suite. I was finally experiencing a place I had pictured myself in months earlier.
Illa Spa: A Sensory Experience in the Heart of Mahón
I was lucky enough to experience Illa Spa during my stay, and the timing could hardly have been better.
I had slept badly the night before and was feeling particularly tired. Sometimes, when you travel, you fill every day with plans and places to see, forgetting that you also need time to stop. That day, I needed exactly that.
Illa Spa was the perfect place to do it.
Set beneath the hotel in a cave-like space, the spa feels removed from the streets above. The lighting is soft, the surroundings encourage you to slow down, and the different water and thermal experiences invite you to focus on how you feel rather than what you need to do next.
The circuit includes contrast bathing, a swimming pool, water jets, a flotation bath, an infrared sauna, a steam room and sensory showers. There is also a pebble walkway designed to stimulate reflex points on the feet.
I particularly enjoyed floating in the water, moving between warm and cold temperatures and feeling the jets work across my body. Each experience offered something different, and together they created a restorative pause in the day.
How the Spa Made Me Feel
What I remember most, though, is how I felt afterwards.
I arrived tired, with a head full of things and a body that needed a break. As I moved through the circuit, I gradually began to relax. The combination of water, warmth, changing temperatures and quiet gave me the chance to slow down in a way I had not managed to do on my own.
It felt like a little bit of magic for the senses.
I would not describe it simply as another hotel spa to try while visiting Menorca. For me, it became one of the most memorable parts of my stay, partly because of the setting and partly because of the moment in which I experienced it.
Sometimes, the best thing you can do while travelling is to leave a little space in your itinerary for something that helps you feel good again. At Jardí de ses Bruixes, that space was Illa Spa.
Ses Bruixes Café: Breakfast Beneath the Orange Trees
The garden is at the heart of Jardí de ses Bruixes, and it is easy to understand why.
The moment you enter the courtyard, the atmosphere changes. Surrounded by orange trees and greenery, it feels like a little world of its own, tucked away from the streets of Mahón.
What struck me was how carefully the garden has been considered. Every angle feels beautiful without appearing forced, and the combination of plants, architecture and seating creates a space that invites you to stay a little longer.
I love places where the details have been thought through not just to look good in photographs, but to make the space genuinely enjoyable. This is one of those places. You can sit beneath the trees for breakfast, have a coffee in the garden or spend a quiet moment there later in the day.
Ses Bruixes Café is open to visitors as well as hotel guests, making it possible to enjoy part of the experience without staying overnight. Breakfast is prepared to order, with a selection of fresh local and international products. You can enjoy it in the courtyard, in the elegant modernist dining room or, if you are staying at the hotel, in the privacy of your room.
There is also a brunch option, making the café worth considering even if you are simply spending time in Mahón.
A Garden to Enjoy at Any Time of Day
For me, the garden is one of the property’s defining features. It brings together the history of the house, the attention to detail and the sense of calm that runs through the hotel.
It is also a reminder that some of the most memorable moments of a trip are wonderfully simple. Sitting beneath orange trees, enjoying a good breakfast and having nowhere urgent to be can be just as special as discovering somewhere new.
The Beauty of Letting Yourself Enjoy the Moment
Looking back on my stay at Jardí de ses Bruixes, what stands out is the way the different experiences came together.
There was the excitement of finally staying somewhere I had imagined myself in long before my visit. The Suite Patio offered its own quiet, with changing light and the sound of water. The spa came at exactly the right moment, when I needed to slow down. And there was the garden, with its carefully considered details and the pleasure of spending time beneath the orange trees.
Each experience was different, but they all encouraged me to do the same thing: stop rushing and pay attention.
When travelling, it is easy to focus on the next destination, the next photograph or the next place to discover. But sometimes the moments that stay with you are the ones in which you allow yourself to be fully present.
Jardí de ses Bruixes gave me the chance to do just that.
Would I Stay at Jardí de ses Bruixes Again?
Yes, absolutely. I would happily return to Jardí de ses Bruixes, not only for the hotel itself, but also for the experience of staying in Mahón.
When planning a trip to Menorca, it is tempting to look for somewhere close to the beach. But outside the summer season, I find that staying in one of the island’s main towns has its own appeal. Mahón offers restaurants, shops and local life throughout the year, while providing a convenient base for exploring the island, particularly its northern and southeastern parts. There is also a public car park nearby, with many free spaces, which makes getting around by car more convenient.
The hotel itself is another reason to consider a stay outside the warmer months. The Suite Patio is wonderful when you want your own outdoor space, but the living area and fireplace also make it an inviting place to return to on cooler evenings. There is something especially cosy about having a comfortable room to come back to after a day exploring the island.
I would recommend Jardí de ses Bruixes to travellers who appreciate characterful boutique hotels, thoughtful design and a sense of place. It works particularly well for those who want to discover Menorca beyond its beaches, enjoy Mahón at a quieter time of year and have somewhere special to return to at the end of the day.
For me, there was also a personal reason why this stay meant so much. I had imagined myself there when I first began curating my selection of unique stays in Menorca, and eventually finding myself in that very suite was a reminder not to take these moments for granted.
Sometimes, a place becomes even more special because of everything that led you there.
Jardí de ses Bruixes was one of those places for me.
