Public House Bangkok, a Member of Design Hotels

Belong to the City: Beyond the Tourist Map

I don’t usually stay in hotels larger than a handful of rooms, but in Bangkok, Public House struck the right balance: intimate yet buzzing with energy. Something about it felt different right away. The communication and branding were speaking directly to me—I simply had to see it for myself. On my two previous trips to the city, I’d stayed in the obvious tourist areas, the kind of places everyone recommends the first time around. This time, I wanted something different. A neighborhood with its own pulse, where the city isn’t just observed but lived.

Walking into Public House Bangkok feels like stepping into a secret corner of the city you didn’t know you needed. Sure, it’s part of Marriott Bonvoy, with all the perks that come with it, but its spirit remains unmistakably independent thanks to its membership in Design Hotels™. After two years of careful reconstruction by 4b Architects Bangkok, the hotel has become a space where home, work, and social life flow together effortlessly. From the street, that bold vertical neon sign grabs your eye—a beacon promising creativity, community, and a touch of playfulness.

Public House Bangkok reimagines the old-world charm of a British gentlemen’s club with a contemporary, welcoming edge. It’s less about exclusivity and more about encounters—a social hub where locals and travelers cross paths, and the perfect base for diving into the city.

Living Bangkok Like a Local

Set in the middle of Bangkok’s buzzing Sukhumvit, Public House instantly gave me that insider feeling. The streets around it are alive with hidden cafés, tiny galleries, and bars you’d never stumble upon in a guidebook. My favorite way to explore? Grabbing the hotel’s own insider guide to Bangkok, mixing in a few of my own hard-earned tips (I spend hours digging out the best spots), and then just hopping into a Grab. Each ride became a mini adventure: one moment I’d find myself in front of a mural splashed across a hidden alley, the next at a coffee shop with only two tables, or wandering through a night market where I felt like the only foreigner.

Here, you’re not just surrounded by the city—you’re invited into it. And that’s exactly what Public House promises: “Belong to the City.”

Edge of the City: My Urban Retreat

I stayed in one of the Edge of the City rooms, and it truly felt like my own slice of Bangkok perched above the streets. The first thing that struck me were the floor-to-ceiling windows, opening up to a city that never stops moving. From up there, Bangkok felt a bit like New York—alive, layered, full of stories you’ll never fully catch but can’t stop watching.

The room itself was quiet and spacious, a welcome pause from the chaos below, yet those views kept me connected to the rhythm outside. I loved pulling the blackout curtains after a late night out, only to throw them open in the morning and feel small against the endless energy of Sukhumvit. For me, this was more than just a hotel room—it was my little retreat in the middle of a city that doesn’t sleep.

Public House keeps things interesting with different categories to match every kind of stay—15 Downtown rooms, 31 Uptown rooms, 14 Daydreamers, and 6 spacious suites. But for me, the Edge of the City was exactly where I wanted to be.

Eat, Drink & Unwind: Stories Worth Discovering

SWD—short for Stories Worth Discovering—quickly became part of my daily rhythm. Open until midnight, it’s the kind of all-day spot that feels good at any hour: bright and full of energy in the morning, glowing and relaxed at night. The food balances comfort with creativity, from simple plates done really well to plant-based dishes that genuinely surprise. It has that mix of design, light, and vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer than planned.

Then there’s OPEN BAR, carrying the bold tagline “Fill your glass with secrets.” It’s not just about cocktails (though the inventive drinks deserve a mention); it’s about creating moments. Each evening, guests are invited to share stories, meet new people, and, yes, enjoy a complimentary cocktail as a way to break the ice. It’s playful and social, but never forced—a reminder that a hotel can be more than just a place to sleep.

And tucked right at the top of the building is The Moon, a cosy rooftop gym that doubles as a little sanctuary. In the mornings, I loved sneaking in a quick stretch while the city was just waking up. By night, it became my favorite hideaway to watch Bangkok’s skyline flicker to life. There’s even a petite pool up there—small, yes, but perfect for cooling off while feeling like the city is yours.

Creative Pulse & Community

Public House doesn’t just sit in the city—it beats in sync with it. Rotating art shows, music pop-ups, and weekend sets by local DJs bring Bangkok’s creative spirit right into the building. The vibe is never static; there’s always something happening that makes you want to linger and connect, whether with fellow guests or with the city itself.

I loved the vibe here—modern, creative, and full of interesting people who made the spaces feel alive. From the coworking corners to the podcast lounge, you can tell it’s designed as much for locals as for travelers. That mix is what gives the hotel its pulse—you’re not just staying in Bangkok, you’re part of its creative flow.

Design & Atmosphere

Public House is a masterclass in style. Open, light-filled public spaces are designed to encourage interaction and creativity, with custom furniture, imported tiles, and a mix of local and international art making every corner worth a second look. Dedicated exhibition areas keep things dynamic, often showcasing new work in collaboration with local artists and galleries.

The design blends mid-century elegance with raw industrial touches, giving the hotel a personality that feels curated yet relaxed. In contrast, the guestrooms are quiet, muted, and restorative—a calm retreat after the city’s energy outside. Floor-to-ceiling windows pull Bangkok right into the room, but once the blackout curtains are drawn, the noise disappears. It’s that balance—vibrant downstairs, serene upstairs—that gives the hotel its unique rhythm.

After two years of meticulous reconstruction, the result is more than a hotel: it’s a space where home, restaurant, workspace, and cultural hub blur seamlessly.

For me, that’s why Public House stands out. The location puts you in one of Bangkok’s most exciting neighborhoods, the atmosphere invites you to be part of the city rather than just observe it, and the design makes the experience memorable. It’s the kind of place I’d recommend without hesitation—and one I’d happily return to.

Last but not least — The People

What really made the difference at Public House was the people. From reception to the restaurant, everyone was warm, attentive, and always smiling. It wasn’t just polite service — it felt genuinely friendly, the kind of vibe that makes you feel at ease the moment you arrive. That human touch added so much to the overall stay and is something I’ll definitely remember.
