Morocco’s Northern Coast

Discover Morocco’s Hidden Gems Along the Northern Coast

This lesser-known part of Morocco is full of hidden treasures. After all, the Mediterranean is unbeatable. If you’re seeking a truly authentic experience, I can help you organize a personalized journey through Morocco, ensuring you stay in the best accommodations and have the perfect itinerary.

Whether you choose to start from Nador or Melilla (the latter might offer cheaper flights), you’ll be embarking on a journey that takes you along Morocco’s northern Mediterranean coast, heading west. You can end your trip in either Tangier or Rabat—both are equidistant from the iconic Blue Pearl, Chefchaouen, which is the heart of this journey. Alternatively, you could start in these cities and travel eastward.

Explore Al Hoceima and the Rif Mountains

On days 1 and 2, you’ll discover Al Hoceima, located at the northern tip of the Rif Mountains. Known for its pristine beaches and clear waters, this coastal city is one of the cleanest and safest in Morocco. Spend your time visiting beaches like Playa del Quemado, Cala Bonita, and Sfiha, and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature.

If you’re into hiking, you can explore the incredible natural parks in this area. Ask me if you’d like more details about trekking routes or guided tours.

The Blue Charm of Chefchaouen

Next, you’ll venture into the Rif Mountains towards Chefchaouen, a city famous for its unique blue buildings. The main economic activity in this region is the cultivation of cannabis, which you might find interesting to learn about.

Chefchaouen is a must-see, offering a blend of peace and adventure. While exploring the area, consider visiting Akchour, a stunning natural paradise known for its waterfalls and scenic hiking trails. For a unique stay immersed in nature, check out my recommended accommodation in Akchour here.

End Your Journey in the Cosmopolitan City of Tangier

Days 7 and 8 will wrap up your trip in Tangier, a cosmopolitan city where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean. You’ll visit the Medina, Kasbah, the neighborhood of former palaces, the Grand Mosque, and the famous Hercules Cave. Tangier’s vibrant cultural scene and unique atmosphere make it a perfect finale for your journey.

For a stay that reflects the city’s charm, I recommend La Maison de Tanger, a boutique hotel that blends elegance with a relaxed atmosphere. Read my full review here to discover why it’s one of our favorite stays in the city.
